Major Ports In India

Ports in India are located in the coastal states of India that are Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and West Bengal. There are 13 major ports in India. In that 12 ports are come under government. The balance one is come under corporate.

The Major Ports in India are,

Kolkata-Haldia Port:

It is located in West Bengal at Eastern Coast. It is India’s only major Riverine port situated on Hugli river. It is Known as Diamond Harbour.

Visakhapatnam Port:

It is located in Andhra Pradesh at Eastern Coast. It is the Deepest port of India.

Kandla Port:

It is located in Kutch, Gujarat at Western Coast. It is known as Tidal port.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port:

It is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra at Western Coast. This port is the largest Artificial Port. It is also known as Nhava Sheva. It is the Largest Container Port in India.

Paradip Port:

It is located in Odisha at Eastern Coast. It is a Natural Harbor.

Kamarajar Port Limited:

It is located in Chennai,Tamil Nadu at Eastern Coast. It is also known as Ennore Port . It is the first corporate port of India.

Mormugao Port Trust:

It is located in Goa at Western Coast.

Cochin Port:

It is located in Kerala at Western Coast. It is situated in the Vembanad lake.

New Mangalore Port:

It is located in Mangalore at Western Coast. It is situated at Gurupura river confluence with Arabian Sea.

Chennai Port:

It is located in Tamil Nadu at Eastern Coast. It is the largest port in the Bay of Bengal and second largest port of India after Jawaharlal Nehru Port. It is the second busiest port in India.

V.O.Chidambaranar Port:

It is located in Tuticorin at Eastern Coast. Tuticorin Port is renamed as V.O.Chidambaranar Port. It is the only port that provide a direct weekly container service to the United States.

Mumbai Port:

It is located in Mumbai at Western Coast. It is the largest Natural Port and harbour in India. It is also the busiest port in India.

Port Blair Port:

It is located in Andaman and Nicobar Island. It is the youngest major port in India.
